Cornflower Blue

I know it's been a while since I posted, but I have been very busy with commission work and other things. I am finally able to share this piece with you though! I finished this little cutie up a few days ago. I was requested to draw this portrait all in graphite, but then do his eyes in blue. I will admit that at first I was hesitant and thought "that will look awful!" but because the customer is always right, I said "alright!". I am so glad I did it because I am very pleased with how it turned out. Really ads a nice POP of color to the piece. And with eyes that beautiful, who wouldn't want to show them off! ;)
How great is it that I get to draw portraits of such good lookin' people!?

I finally finished it! I was inspired to draw an octopus in ink, and once I finished the octopus, I couldn't help myself...so I just drew the rest of the page with abstract stuff that could possibly imitate under the sea creatures. And now my nice ink pen is officially dead!

A Study

Well, I haven't posted in a while because I have just been very busy, but I decided that I had to do something today. So, of course, I drew more of the figure. This time, I focused more on the male form which is really great fun to draw...those muscles! Enjoy!

Just a few sketches I did up today. I am absolutely loving the human body, it's an amazing subject to draw. No matter what position or how you compose the figure, there are always so many contours created by the muscle-which make for fascinating drawings!

It's Positive to be Negative

This post is of a project we had to do for my Figure Drawing class. We had to draw the "negative space" in our composition. So our model was holding a staff and had a furniture of some sort with him as positive space, our job was to draw everything else; therefore creating his figure as well as the other objects. This is an off-take of what we usually do, which is draw the positive space and do all of the details of the figure. It took a while for me to get used to the idea that all we were doing was a TON of shading! After the fact, I realized I should have made my positive space a bit larger because I had way to much to shade in!! ;)

The quality of the pictures is not that great, but at least you can get the idea.

A Never Ending Project

So I was recently given a little purse size sketch book and decided to decorate the inside lining of it just to add a little pizzazz and pop when I open it. Of course, I did an abstract ink design. Once I finished one side, I couldn't help myself and decided to do the other side....and then after that I felt the need to decorate the very back of the book as well. So over a period of three days, I have created some pretty cool designs! Enjoy!

Blind Leading the Blind

For my last semester at college, I have decided to take some art classes, one of which is Figure Drawing. I have only had three classes so far, but I am really enjoying it, especially the last class session we had. Each class period we have a model come in for us to draw, this last time we had a guy volunteer (a dancer and theater performer) so he was an excellent model! To warm up, for the first half of class, our professor had us do blind contour drawings. This is where the artist only looks at the item (figure) she is drawing and NOT the paper-at all!! Not only that, but the pen cannot lift up off of the paper. It is supposed to be one continuous line, and you are to go very slowly. This exercise is done so that with time, the artist's hand and eye become more coordinated. All in all, it was a really fun exercise  and I was rather surprised at how my figure came out in most of them...better than I thought it would! ;)

Generally, when you have finished the blind contour, the figure is hardly recognizable-but these are ok. So it's a great way to become more coordinated and it is very relaxing. 

The Hang Out

About three weeks ago I decided to finally put some paint on a canvas I've had sitting in my closet for far too long. I saw it on sale at an art store about a year ago and was thrilled to finally have an opportunity to paint on a canvas of this size (it's the biggest I've ever painted on before). So, I bought it and was very excited...yet I had no clue what I was going to paint on it!! Story of my life ;) I was finally inspired, and this is what the canvas now looks like.

An Absolute Doll

Well, I have completed my semester and decided to spend my now free time doing a little doodling! Now, I usually just draw up a mermaid or something, so it took a lot out of me today not to draw one...it was hard. But, what I chose to replicate this time is so much better than mermaids and much, much cuter! I decided to sketch my precious little niece. This little angel took me 2.5 hours to complete.

Hi! Just posting another sketch I did up the other day. At some point I want to paint her with watercolor...but for now she is just a pencil sketch. I think a nice loose look with that medium and bright colors will add a fresh, crisp and relaxed feel, which is what I think of when I think of a hula dancer. :)

Tell Me a Story...

I know it's been a good while since I put something up, sorry! I haven't had time to really draw anything new, but I found this little piece tucked away in one of my portfolio's. It's not my best work, but I think the overall picture is just fun. Who wouldn't love to be in a magical forest with cool creatures, a large blue dragon, and polka dot mushrooms being read to by a fairy? I know I would!

School Project

Hello everyone!
I know I haven't posted in  a long while, but I haven't found a time to get away from the books...those darn things take away all my time ;)
Anyway...since I'm on the topic of school, I have decided to post a little something I had to design for one of my business classes. I had to prepare a Business Plan and my business was a Sportsman's Paradise. A lodging sort of place where people could go to relax, fish, hunt and do all that fun outdoorsy stuff. To help with the visuals, I designed this logo.

I was excited about the ending product...I didn't expect it to come out that nice, so I was pleasantly surprised ;)

Reflecting on the Dunes

This will be a short post, just thought I'd post up a little painting of mine from a couple of years back. This is a watercolor that I discovered in my portfolio...one that I painted in my watercolor class.
I remember wanting to be done with it so badly, but my teacher would peek her head over my shoulder and say, "why don't you make those bushes darker..." Oh goodness! Darker!?!? I had already been dabbing the liquidy green paint over and over again for at least 30 minutes..wasn't it dark enough? Apparently not ;) So, I sat there just dipping and dabbing... until I became to tired of repeating that and decided it was dark enough.

The one thing in this picture that makes me cringe every time I see it is the tree....I don't know what happened there, but it came out a bit wonkey! ;) I was pleased with the bushes though...although they took me a very long time to complete.
